My wal-mart has lots of curious Japanese items... more than one might think. Asian section: Curry, udon, Japanese ramen, pocky, miso, nori sheets, Botan (short-grain rice), panko, wasabi and ginger... and in the produce section: edamame, tofu, yakisoba... and frozen section has hibachi frozen dinners and frozen gyoza potstickers.
I go to salvage grocery stores too... and surprisingly, they have good stuff. You can get bottles of Kikkoman soy sauce and rice wine for, like, 50 cents or less!
