いつ is used to denote "what time". 時(とき) is used to say the time that x occurs.
いつ日本に行きますか?(Literally) What time period will you go to Japan?
日本に行った時に声をかけてください。 (Literally) At the time that you go and arrived in Japan, please give me a yell/tell me.

I understand what you mean, and I do agree with you, but my question is, how can I think in japanese if I do not know much about it?
(P.S. I dont think in english, I think mostly in portuguese/french)
