People should educate themselves and read more about the mayan calendar before jumping to this 2012 doomsday crap. The Mayan believed that they wouldn't be destroyed and would keep living in 52 year cycles if they kept giving sacrifices to the gods. So why aren't we dead yet when nobody hasn't been sacrificing in a long long time? The long count calendar was just used to measure time longer than 52 years.
People now believe in this 2012 thing just because a man named José Argüelles said that. He isn't even using the original calendar to calculate the date.
A quote from Wikipedia:
"Although Argüelles states that his tools and calendar are clearly not a Mayan calendar, much criticism of it focuses on the fact that his works remain completely unsupported by any professional Mayanist scholar. Amongst many criticisms leveled at it, it is pointed out that the interpretation merely co-opts an ancient tradition by recasting it in New Age terms, unknown, unused and undocumented among the Maya."
A million miles till I'm done.
