as pointed out people exclaim that it's too expensive...
well i agree..
but MMM... i also agree if you can't afford a lexus don't steal one!!
my arguement though is about supply and demand and the markets your aiming at..
i think the manga companies are incredibly THICK!
MMM you don't own a lexus BECAUSE it's aimed at high flying millionaires.. it's at the price it is as it's a "luxury" item... people look at them and think "wow... that man is a mothertrucker with a whole lotta money"
however.
people don't see someone with a volume of manga and think "sweet jesus he's rich he's just bought 6 episodes of naruto"
the thing is..
the manga readers and anime watchers outside of japan are usually say...
12 - 21 year olds??? (in my experience)
i looked in HMV in london 2 days ago and a naruto volume i found (which was 24.99 quid)
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/10985...t/Product.html
look at the RRP
so.. that volume has 12 episodes... 12 x 20 minutes = 4 hours viewing
4 hours = 25 quid. (about 50 dollars)
thats pretty expensive really.. and naruto is on the cheaper end of the scale..
if i went to my parents at about age 16... "can i have 25 quid to buy an anime" they'd tell me to take along walk off a short pier!
basically.. it IS to expensive for the market they're aiming at.
they should re-jig their supply and demand.
in no way do i support downloading as i'm an ANIMATION student at staffordshire university... oneday.. that is going to be MY stuff on the internet people are ripping me off for!
however.. i do think the industry shouldn't be so much of a "lexus" goods market.
sorry for essay/rant

I would agree that anime, especially, is sometimes overpriced. But it isn't out of greed or idiocy that this happens. When an anime is made in Japan the animators and voice actors are paid. When it is brought the West, they are paid again, but then we have to pay for translators, English voice actors, etc. It's an expensive proposition. One way some of the smarter companies counter this is by eliminated dubs and doing only subs. No voice actors, no studio time, big savings.
