You might want to see if you could get a grant or something, perhaps doing your thesis on geology in Japan.

That may be one way to do it.

I have no doubt as geologist you would have a fascinating time, but lots and lots of those places are out of bounds and for good reason, they are lethal.

I recently saw a program about a geologist (think he was from the UK) do a one off documentary about Japan.
