Life in a foreign country can be very interesting, but very hard. Having lived in a military family, I've moved around from place to place. It is really difficult to live in a foreign country [especially when you don't know the language]. So to me, getting a degree before I moved to Japan is a given.
[Then again, it may be different for adults. I haven't lived in a foreign country since I was 7]
