As far as こんこん、can I use this when greeting friends?
|
Um, I use it just like "Hi hi". Especially online. But I'm not sure if other people use this too. Maybe only my friends haha.
Did you know that こんこん can be a knocking sound? For example...a bathroom door. So first time when I use this to my friend who is on his 40's, he replied me "入ってます". I hope you can understand it. It was his joke
He knew that こんこん was the short form of こんばんは、but he took it as the sound of knocking on a bathroom door to make it a joke.

One thing I always miss out on in learning from a book is the real way that Japanese people speak to each other. Books tend to teach you way too formal Japanese for everyday use.

Umm. But it is very difficult for foreigners to use informal Japanese without offending native Japanese speakers. I think it's the safest to learn polite form of Japanese first. ^^; And... Japanese adults use formal Japanese to their friends too (This is what an Amerian guy couldn't believe). So formal Japanese isn't useless.
