Kagehinata ni Saku ("Flowers in the Shadow" or "Bloom in the Shade") had me in floods of tears for almost the entire film. Although the metaphor is hammered home a little roughly, and the coincidences are a little too tenuous for suspension of disbelief, the whole film is so gloriously beautiful that it's problems are forgivable. View it more as a fairytale than a realistic drama and it works exceptionally well.

I saw it last year, and I'm hoping to pick up a copy next month... Assuming I can find a DVD shop that doesn't only sell porn
