both are originally written by Shuhei Fujisawa who wrote many samurai stories.

Also 蝉しぐれ(Cicada forest) and 武士の一分(a reason of Samurai) are written by Fujisawa(Titles might be wrong because I translated them). Please check them out.

武士の一分(a reason of Samurai) is also directed by the same director "Yoji Yamada" as Twilight samurai.
