It's like an argument of dimensions; it's complex, multilayered, potentially infinite, and frankly painful to even try to fully comprehend. Virtually everyone (including myself) is basically only limited to guessing -- whether some would like to admit it or not.

IMO, either intelligent answer is logical because it's such an incredibly broad concept.
With that said, I'll go ahead and gamble that it's both.
