you could write poems with obvious connotations about death/nature/love and hopefully your poem gets introduced to the school syllabus for english and the cash and reputation will be rolling in. And when that happens, keep their interest by announcing something outrageous.
e.g: Carol Ann Duffy/

But that rarely happens. Its a long hard road..and 90% of people get no where with it. Modern poetry just isn't what it used to be anymore. I would pick Byron/Keats over Modern poetry ANYDAY.
