When I went to Japan-- I went with a fellow who had a similar experience.


He was allergic to shell-fish and all variations of fish roe.

His host family wasn't aware, and he was too shy to admit he had an allergy (as so he didn't offend them)

He spent the remainder of his trip all red-faced and vomitey.

As for my host family, they were eager to feed me American food-- which is exactly the opposite of what I wanted/expected.

You might be surprised, chances are your host family will have a bucket of KFC upon your arrival.
