While I do agree that Korea became a "pawn" in the western/Russian era conflicts, I wouldn't say thats the whole case today. There are a myriad of circumstances all intertwined into the whole set up, lableing any one of those as the primary reason for how things are today, perhaps over simplifies things too much.
I understand the desire to have straight bad guys and good guys, it would make things easier. However, life tends to be far more complicated, it's why conflicts can be so messy. Korea's case is similer to a family dispute with outsiders getting involved and just makeing things a huge mess. Just haveing the "outsiders" leave could cause far more problems than it solves though, because everyone is so intertwined at this point.
