My host mum in Hiroshima is a tennis coach, so when I visit there we always go to play some tennis. The clay/dirt courts in Japan are of shocking quality though. Maybe about 1/5 balls bounce straight instead of deviating to the left or right.

There are some hardcourts though which are of very good quality. I played in an indoor stadium and the net was perfect and there was masses of room all around the court for the angled shots. I'd advise playing on hardcourts if you can find some.
