As long as you can cover it with professional dress, it does not hinder you at all.
I have a tattoo on my upper arm. I had a social life in Japan. Hell, it was a conversation piece/starter on occassion.
Hell, I was even told of a few onsens that do accept people with tattoos.
This idea of 'TATTOO = BAD' is not the viewpoint of the younger generations. They are slowly becoming more socially acceptable.
