Besides, Japan had no intention of bringing the war to America. They never wanted to land on American soil; they just wanted them to stay out. The bombing raid on Pearl Harbour had one purpose; to exactly smash American military. It was strategical and pre-emptive.
I doubt they ever would have killed many innocent Americans, so that is kinda backwards, what you said.

That wasn't the choice, more Americans for fewer Japanese. The choice was many, many more Americans and MANY, MANY MORE Japanese being killed in a land invasion if they either didn't drop the bombs or the bombs didn't work and they decided to continue the war anyway. And they very nearly chose to do that... they refused to surrender after Hiroshima, and after Nagasaki, the vote was a tie, 50% for surrender, 50% to keep fighting. The Emperor is then allowed to break the tie (which is the only time he got a vote), and chose surrender. If even 1 person had changed their mind, the war would have continued.
