A lot of you need to watch the History Channel more. The U.S. wasn't blameless, but they didn't strike first. They embargoed oil to Japan which got Japan pissed off. Japan joined Germany and were planning to invade through China while the Germans attacked from the other side and push up into Russia. The embargo ended that plan.
Who ever thinks America allowed Japan to attack Pearl Harbor so they could get involved in the war is crazy. At the time the U.S. Military was rated ninth in the world due to the number of men and lack of equipment. They weren't prepared for war.
As far as allowing more Americans to die, what if the ones to die were you or your family? You would probably dropped the bomb yourself if you felt this would save your family or friends, civilian deaths or not.
There is a saying "Peace through superior firepower", this is true as we saw Japan surrender after the bombings.
