I lived and taught there for 2 years and had 2 Japanese GF's (at different times, hehehe). I am not a typical Brit who is lazy and insists on English. It was a challenge and I like to think that I did quite well with it. I didn't learn that much kanji but that wasn't my goal. Conversation and doing more than just getting by was my target. I remember a lot.
