During the runup to WW2 The Spanish Civil War was a major conflict that devastated Spain from 17 July 1936 to 1 April 1939. Americans in the struggle against fascist served in large numbers ' Abraham Lincoln Brigade ' and other international forces against nazi germany backed nationalist.
Large segments of americans not only supported european struggle against fascistism but also fought and engaged in combat way before Pearl Harbor and against the wishes of the United States government.
