See, it appears as if the difference between African Americans and all the other ethnicities in America is that you're still using slavery as an excuse, and won't move on. Other ethnicities have suffered yet they moved on. They didn't use waste their time on excuses and instead worked for their successes. I read an article on CNN a few months back about an African American teenager who was essentially homeless yet worked her ass off and as a result, received a scholarship to Harvard. I admire her not using race as an excuse for not earning the scholarship. She actually did something with her time.

Yes, I am. Speaking as someone who will benefit from affirmative action, I still maintain that it is unfair. Clearly you harbor some grudge towards people who have done nothing wrong. No one from that era (U.S.) is still alive today. I will admit, I've met countless Caucasians who are incredibly intelligent yet are unable to procure funds for a decent college education. For simply being 1/8 Native American, I will receive a scholarship and a free ticket to a university in Colorado. What happened to working and earning for things?

QFT. But then again, you're a racist, aren't you?
Yeah, that black teenager is very brave. I also love watching CNN's Black in America. There was a principal who really worked as hard as he could to make sure that every single one of his inner-city students attended college. There's a 100% rate of students attending college at his school. Beautiful, isn't it?

I'm sorry if you think that I'm using excuses. I wasn't aware that I was defending myself from something, and that I was saying, "but my ancestors were slaves." If I gave that response or implied that in some way, then I'm sorry.

What I am saying is that I think people ought to be aware of subconscious racism. As burkhartdesu said earlier, we also suffer from internalized racism. I believe that people should be aware of their personal prejudices.

No one is still alive from the slavery era, but people still suffer as a result of slavery. "To say that slavery makes an "impact" on our society today is a gross understatement. Although slavery is technically and legally over, the ramifications are enormous."

Here is a great article you should read: What impact did slavery have on our society today? - by Eden Gardner - Helium

Here's some random trivia: did you know that "caucasian" means that people of paler skin are inherently smarter? Caucasian is a Dirty Word.

"Where is Caucasia?

I asked that same question when I was a wee lad first trying to divide my world into discrete boxes. Turns out, there really is a Caucasia. According to the mighty wikipedia this region is interesting for the following reasons:

* It’s considered the “border” between Europe and Asia
* Not surprisingly, the peoples and languages are extremely diverse
* Noah’s Arc mythically landed in the Caucasus Mountains
* Some human skulls were found there.

It’s that last point where we start. Popularized by a Joseph Friedrich Blumenbach, these Caucasian skulls were considered so modern (in the anthropological sense) and so well-formed that they must be the ancestors of the white race. Blumenbach goes on to compare them to the skulls of the pure and beautiful German race and even gives us an insight to his Georgian fetish:

[These skulls] produces the most beautiful race of men, I mean the Georgian; and because all physiological reasons converge to this, that in that region, if anywhere, it seems we ought with the greatest probability to place the autochthones (birth place) of mankind.

By “mankind” Blumenbach of course meant white people who were tainted along the way to produce the other, inferior races. Please see the summary on wikipedia for Caucasian race for more hilarity."

Pretty interesting stuff, right?

I've never heard of that before, but I guess with that, I think we would have to look at the percentage of white people on welfare and the percentage of black people on welfare. The populations aren't the same size, so if there are more white people than black people, then there will be more white people on welfare. If there's a higher percentage of white people on welfare, then I would be pretty surprised. I've heard the contrary to that before.

LOVE: pass it on
