People use the term 'retard' all the time and use it in the sense of it meaning stupid. We know it doesn't mean that, but it's still used out of context. People use the term "gay" out of context too, as it can mean both "happy" or "homosexual", but would use it in the sense of meaning "stupid".

To blacks, in America anyway, "nigger" means exactly what the OP said. That's the context in which it was used. It was used in a derogatory sense to keep us down and such and can be thought of as "the white man's slave". To us, that's how it was used. Why blacks use the term amongst one another is just downright stupid and degrading and have no right to complain if someone who isn't black decides to use it, because it is a double standard.

IMO, some people will never understand that.
