Personally, I've only tried yoga once and that was at the insistence of my mother. Sometimes you have to be active, sometimes passive and that's why I gave it a try. The cat posture really straightens you out. Postures are important in Japan. The seza and other positions in izakayas took a bit of getting used to. Also, you can't slouch or sprawl across the floor when invited as a guest to a home (although after much whisky it tends to be ignored, lol).

It's just becoming accustomed to it. A solid posture guards against things like RSI and it raises your awareness of your body.
