Anyway, I've never been to war, but I've been in equally as fucked situations that occur in war. It never bothered me. I would not mind war.
Of course, different characters of people are suited to war. The character a child grows to be is shaped by the world he/she/it grows up in. The world was much different back then, making for much stronger people.
It's only logical war was much less of a psychological blast in a world where there's so much more mental conditioning and mental preperation before you enter it.

Second of all... I realise that you romanticise about the simpler days of the ancient and medieval worlds and you see yourself as some sort of modern day Spartan (pathetic if you ask me). But your lack of experience in modern warfare and the lack of information available concerning the mental conditioning of soldiers of the past really puts you in no position to be able to call the war vets of today "fagots".
