Okay, I guess you got me. I'd like to officially opologize to Ronin, and revise my stance;
Due to new found eNerd links, I now believe the past is not much better than the present in terms of how civilians are treated during war. I now believe that, after all these thousands of years, nothing at all has changed. The present is equally as bad.
Anyway, not always. Alexander did not hate his enemies. After he took Persia, a massive part of his Army became Persian, and he fought on the front lines with them. He also took a Persian wife; he did not hate his enemies. That's a big and important trait. A lot of men today are full of and driven by hate.
