What if you sold your soul for the greater good
.Like per say ending world hunger(lame answer I know).It wouldn't be totally pointless.But at the same time it would suck for you (the not having a soul part).Also I have a feeling people would take advantage of whatever good you give to them afterwards.So it again boils down to it all...Is it worth it?
