This statement is not correct I currently live in Arizona and you can own a machine gun with a class three gun licenses. In fact I was at a gun show the other day and a few people there were selling machine guns, full automatic machine guns, and cannons. If you dont believe check out this link. Upon further investigation, you're right. The 1986 law made it illegal to sell new machine guns to civilians, but it did not outlaw existing or second-hand guns. However, those are still strictly controlled and require expensive licenses in most states (and have since the 1934 law), and some states (like California) refuse to give out civilian licenses for them.
