As a chef I know that thousand island is made commonly using mayo, ketchup, tabasco or hot sauce, and diced/chopped pickles, peppers, olives, and onions. I also know another way to make it involves yogurt, oil, lemon juice, tomato sauce, salt, sugar, black pepper, chopped onion, jalapeno, and green olives, relish, and mustard powder.

Thousand island IS made the way I describe by many, many people, tastes great, and, most importantly is inexpensive and easy. Why don't you just take a road trip across most of the western world and tell everyone how wrong they are, smart guy.
