I hate it when people comment and it's obvious they didn't even read the article it's associated with, and therefore do not have the knowledge of what it's all about. He didn't get this because he was the first black president. As a person of African-American origins statements like this tick me off. Why is it that whenever something good happens for this man it has to carry back to him being black? Why can't it just be because he's a person in general? To quote parts of one of the many articles on this stating why the award was given to him:

Obama: Nobel Peace Prize is 'call to action'

The committee said it honored Obama for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

The Nobel committee recognized Obama's efforts at dialogue to solve complex global problems, including working toward a world free of nuclear weapons.

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the committee said.

Jagland said the decision was "unanimous" and came with ease.

"His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population," the committee said of Obama.

Obama said he did not feel he deserved "to be in the company" of past Peace Prize winners, but would accept the prize while pushing for a broad range of international objectives, including nuclear nonproliferation, a reversal of the global economic downturn and a resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

He also acknowledged the ongoing U.S. conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, noting that he is the "commander in chief of a country that is responsible for ending a war and working in another theater to confront a ruthless adversary that directly threatens the American people" and U.S. allies.

"This award is not simply about my administration," he said. It "must be shared" with everyone who strives for "justice and dignity."

It was given to him because of the HOPE he has given people. The fact that he's one of the few country leaders, whether you believe his motives or not, that is actually trying to do something and give a <expletive> here. Yet people are too busy trying to discredit him. You say he hasn't been in office long, and he hasn't had time to do anything, yet those same people complain about that same fact. Oh, he hasn't done anything yet. Hmm, really? Well, you're complaining about it, yet you JUST said he hasn't had time, right? Not to mention the politicians who reject him simply because they are against his existence, and not what he's trying to achieve? Laughable. Pathetic. Highly immature.

90%(this is my rough number based off no official data, lol) of the hicks and hillbillies standing outside the White House protesting don't even know why they're out there. They're just protesting. When questioned about the history they say Obama is violating, they don't even know it. I'll have to make it a point to find that video of interviews to post on here for people to see. It makes me shake my head when I see people who don't have a pot to pee in or a window to throw it out of go against the idea of healthcare for those who don't have it. "It's gonna raise our taxes!!! WAAA!!!" Go look at Sweden and Norway. It's the system they have in place for healthcare when it comes to the taxing thing. It's funny how they're happy knowing their loved ones won't have to die for something silly, or go bankrupt from a freak accident and hospital bills.

I'm so sick and tired of seeing people who live in this country constantly dump on this man. Please don't be so ignorant. He fails, we all fail. I don't really have much of an opinion about those who aren't citizens..people on the outside can say what they want as their view is even more different. Is it really that hard to just say "Congratulations," and keep it moving?

Anyways, I got really upset and went on a tangent. I apologize if I insulted anyone as that was not my intention. However, if you read any of that and saw yourself in it, maybe you should revise your way of thinking.
