Sub-tropical in the USA is Florida Keys islands
in Japan it is Okinawa islands and area
Edit, Hokkaido is cool, dry climate. 3 weeks in summer is hot and humid, winter can be -20C, meters of snow and strong wind, don't forget the sea ice in the north.
