I never really got picked on because people were afraid of me before they even knew I liked Japanese things. I hate to say it but I also looked down the hardcore otakus because it felt like they were taking everything way too seriously. They'd talk about taking characters out on dates for chistsakes! They made me ashamed to like anime but I never let anyone else know it...I held my head high and went ahead and did my own thing/ Senoir year I got brave and gave an entire presentation about myself in an entirely Japanese flavored way...and I got huge applause because they'd never seen something so interesting. I called my like of anime "My inner geek squeaks" and I think putting it out there that I know it's kind of weird helped my case and showed them that it didn't matter...I liked it and they could all just stuff it! hehe
