I have a friend I went to Berkeley with, kind of the preppy jock beer-pong obsessed frat guy type who used to hassle me for being into anime, not seriously or anything just a joke here and there, then one day he was at my house and I gave him my copy of Akira to borrow and I was like "Dude just watch this and you'll never make fun of anime again" and he didn't take my statement too seriously at the time, then I saw him a few days later and he was like "OH MY GOD THAT WAS THE CRAZIEST SHIT I HAVE EVER SEEN DUDE THE PART WHERE TESUO GOES UP TO THE MOON AND STARTS TEARING SHIT UP AND THOSE PSYCHIC KIDS THAT LOOK LIKE OLD PEOPLE DUDE WTF BEST MOVIE EVER." So then I slowly got him into the classics like all of Miyazaki's masterpieces and Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell and some personal favorites of mine like Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade and Planetes (god I love that show so much) and it just snowballed from there and now he's this jock who's a total Otaku and we'll be at parties and stuff and if anyone says anything negative about anime he gets all gnarly and is like "STFU ANIME IS AWESOME DON'T TALK SHIT" and everyone is really confused and it's hilarious.

But yeah if people don't like anime thats there loss. Most people are dumb anyway so whatevs. I've been going to AX in SoCal religiously for 8 years and love love love it! AX 2007 in Long Beach I waited SIX HOURS in line to register because I forgot to pre-reg. Worth every minute though. I never buy anything though I just go to the panels. Theres too much cheap plastic crap being peddled to people. I've got a few wall scrolls and some DVD's and thats it.
