I think it is a human nature of some people to tease no matter what. If everyone were the same but you drank a different soda, they would tease you for that difference. Maybe they would teasy you on how fizzy your soda is.

So I don't think you should take being teased on for liking Japan personally and need to defend Japan. I always tell people things are my hobbies, and hobbies are things people understand. So if you relate to them that way, they might not try to offend as much.
