Unfortunately for these kids, drive-thru operators work in fear of getting hot coffee, fire crackers, paint balls and worse thrown in their faces (go on YouTube...there are tons of videos) so we live in a time where messing around on the drive-thru mic is no longer a harmless prank. Ten years ago, maybe, but this is a different time.
