No where in any instructions I have read here or elsewhere is there any guidance on what to choose after you select Japanese. The options for hiragana and various styles of katakana that Microsoft offers are not intuitive for those just learning the language.
And most beginning classes in the U.S. use hiragana before transitioning to katakana in secondary levels.
