と wouldn't really work there because there you'd be forced into the English equivalent "When Y occurs, [it is natural that] X occurs [as an effect]."
雨が降ると、雲がある。
When it rains, there are clouds.
まっすぐ行くと、左にブックオフがあるんだよ。

In OP's sentence, you want to say
only when. This is different.
