This one can also be difficult to get past Japan Immigration. While you might have a chance of getting a working visa with a CELTA and no degree, it is by no means guaranteed. With a degree (it can be a three-year degree from countries like the UK and Australia where a bachelor of Arts for example only takes 3 years) you are almost guaranteed to get the visa if you have a job lined up.
