This is confusing. First you don't want the lyrics to be in romanji, but if someone isn't able to read Japanese (which is probably the majority of the target audience for fansubs) how would they "look it up"? And this is not only done in fansubs, the lyrics are translated on most dvds.

No, stop making things up. I never said I could read Japanese. If anything, my point in having the text is to learn something. But it wouldn't matter if I could or couldn't. It's not the point. It's only that I see it as a big mistake to hardsub that sort of thing.

I think people can hear how the song is sung just fine if they're caring about the song to begin with. And learning with Japanese text is better anyways. So far that's how I learned pretty much all the very few kanji I can remember.

Why? Now someone can't hold a differing opinion? Sure, I can read and understand some Japanese, but I like knowing what they're saying right then.

But it's already been implied by someone that some of that is done to "brand", which is another reason to hate it being done. It's almost as bad as those actual "brands" of some lame logo of an irc channel or site. The credit all goes to the actual creators of the material, no need to cheapen it with "branding".

As far as the kid who said something about getting it for free. If I really want something, I'll buy it. But guess what? Some of them never get released on this side of the world and probably never will, or not in so many years that it will be unlikely I still care by then. Macross Frontier is one of those cases that won't get released here. I guess next you're going to whine that I should go buy it there?

You are receiving free stuff, and you're still complaining? People take the time to translate anime, without being paid, and you're getting stiff over "Well, it just doesn't look right." Then fix it yourself and stop complaining.
