The timing is right because your dog will have to be in quarantine for up to 6 months by the Animal Quarantine Service at the airport.

Most apartments do not allow pets.

Some apartments allow pets, but only to a certain size.

Some allow large dogs, but be prepared to pay for it in higher rent, a larger apartment and a pet deposit.

Keep in mind that unless you live out in the country, chances are your large dog will not be allowed off a leash except when inside your apartment. Also unless you are far from the city, parks are small and don't have grass.
