The word for "angel" in Japanese was borrowed directly from Chinese. The relationship between the two languages is eerily similar to the English-Latin connection.

For example, rarely would someone say how fascinating "canine" is like "canis" despite the different grammars of English and Latin, because one borrowed the other.
