You're only partly mistaken, but they way you've used it is completely wrong.
Your sentence "Is there really any need to be so egotistic towards, damaris?" should be "Is there really any need to be so egotistic towards Damaris?" As it stands, your sentence doesn't hold much accurate semantic meaning.
We only use the comma if the name of the person used is the person being addressed. For example;
"Noodle, it's really not worth trying to argue about this. The OP probably won't even come back" or
"Don't egg them on, Robhol."
