I have a totally different opinion.
すでに here means "already".
There is no subject "I" hidden in that part in
bold. We don't say 「someone は（が）～～の時間に入ろうとする」.
There is no "trying to do" in it, either, as there is no presence of a person in that part. 「～～の時間に入ろうとしていた」means that the particular time period had just begun or was beginning to start.
My translation, therfore, would be:
"My one-o'clock lunch break had just begun already, but"
