50% is a national number but it doesn't take any factors into consideration. For example the divorce rate of people who get married before the age of 20 is much higher than those who marry after the age of 25. People who get married for a second time have a much higher rate of divorce (which goes up at third, fourth, etc.) So some of that % is people that have been divorce three or four times.

Also the higher your education level the lower rate of divorce. A four year degree cuts the divorce rate by half.
