Because Christianity has pretty much failed to take hold anywhere in Japan other than very small enclaves (and in Hokkaido, I think).
If you excluded the Japanese people at my small church in Sagamihara, I only knew one Japanese Christian.
I wouldn't blame it on the language, though. I'd blame it on the history and culture of Japan.
