I didn't twist your words, I only quoted you. If people are turned off by manga because they have to pay for it, then they weren't fans in the first place.
These days most publishers have sample pages of new titles online, and you can sometimes see sample pages on Amazon. I am not talking about checking something out before you buy...I am talking about reading 10, 15, 20 volumes, thousands of pages. That's not a test drive...that's stealing the car.
