Keep in ind that he could just be keeping you as the perpetual back-up plan. He wanted your permission to see the other girl so if things went wrong you'd be there as Plan Two so he wouldn't be alone.

If the same girl or some other girl comes along and takes place Number One again and he still tries to stay on good terms with you than he is just using you in between the girls he really wants to be with. Like a security blanket.

This may make you feel needed but you have to think of what you want in life.
Bad guy of good guy isn't the issue. Do you always want to be in second place? It is not good for your self esteem.
