Yukisuke might be onto something, though. Seems that women in Japan now are more interested in having careers as opposed to settling down and marrying and some aren't interested in starting families, like say maybe ten or twenty plus years ago. The times are changing. I remember a Japan Times article, where one woman mentioned that a dog was more reliable than a man (or something like that), which was a few years ago.
