Wow, funny. I came across tangible manga in the comic book store in my area back in the 90s before I ever knew or even come across scanlations. Also didn't hit me that what I was seeing would've been considered "manga". I didn't consciously start looking up manga until the early 2000s and started looking for Sailor Moon manga.

I figured manga had been around a good while just like anime had, just that the titles were far and in between at the time.
