I never stated scanlations are the reason manga sales have slumped. They are a part of the problem, though, along with tough economic times and oversaturating the market with sometimes less than stellar titles.
However, just because people don't have money doesn't mean they have the right to steal to satisfy their desires.

Exactly right. The first manga I remember was Godzilla, and it came out in 1988. For a long time the books were flipped to Western style, which often meant the pages were backwards, making every samurai left handed.
