True. But nowhere is there a time frame set for karma to occur. And the negativity that naturally accompanies unrealized expectations factors into the karmic balance as well.

As for karma in relation to religions, I think there is some aspect of the basic premise in most, though most western religions separate it from the concept of reincarnation which is strongly tied to karma in some eastern beliefs.
