There are ways and ways to treat them, for all you know-- you could damage her love of learning Japanese.
So seriously why not guide Shinjon? to good websites or teaching material.

I tried to stay out of this argument (successfully, it seems), but it's not hard to understand why people were getting all upset. I would say almost every serious student of Japanese knows that humility is a virtue when it comes to Japan. I'm not saying that I endorse how Mira acted or how any of our regular posters acted, but I can certainly understand why they felt angered by her. Also, I feel like the point where I saw this start (the thread about ほど) had a valid point. ほど, especially in the use it was being asked about, is hardly an advanced topic. I think my text book goes over it in the first hundred pages or so.
To be fair, I don't think I had the greatest head on my shoulders back when I was 16, so I'm sure I made some mistakes. If nothing else, she can come away from this situation with the knowledge that: A) People can be jerks. B) Sometimes the quickest way to end an argument is to admit you're wrong (regardless of whether or not you are, and regardless of whether or not you believe it).
